What Is PCB Wave Soldering?

With the development of industrial electronic technology, people have higher and higher requirements for PCB assembly soldering. Traditional manual PCB soldering can no longer meet the post-soldering processing of all products. As an efficient and high-quality DIP soldering technology, we have to mention PCB wave soldering, so what is wave soldering? Let us introduce it in detail next.

What is wave soldering?

Wave soldering uses a wave soldering machine to directly contact the soldering surface of the plug-in board with high-temperature liquid tin for soldering. It can solder a large number of plug-in components on the PCB surface at the same time. The entire process goes through the board conveyor belt, preheating area, welding area, Cooling zone and control system, first place the printed circuit board to be welded on the board feeding mechanism, and then heat the circuit board through the preheating zone to reach the appropriate welding temperature. Then, the circuit board enters the welding area, and the component lead ends or the circuit board welding ends are welded through the tin waves generated by the wave soldering machine. Finally, the soldered circuit board is cooled and solidified through the cooling zone to form a stable solder joint.

Advantages of wave soldering

1. Efficient: Compared with traditional manual welding, this technology uses continuous and uninterrupted tin waves, which can weld multiple pins on the welding surface of the PCB board at the same time, shortening the welding time and increasing production capacity.

2. Stable and high-quality welding quality: By adjusting and controlling the wave peak height and furnace temperature, wave soldering technology can ensure that solder joints are evenly tinned, reduce cold soldering and false soldering, and reduce the defective rate. In addition, wave soldering is suitable for complex PCBs such as the soldering of ground pin and the pin soldering of precision components and make it easier.

3. Reduce costs: Fully automated welding can reduce labor costs and increase production capacity

How we control PCB welding quality

Although wave soldering has great advantages over traditional manual soldering in the electronics manufacturing industry, we also need to pay attention to some issues in actual operations.

1. Equipment maintenance: We will perform regular maintenance on the wave soldering machine. Although the wave soldering machine has automated and efficient production capabilities, if the equipment is not properly maintained, the quality of the PCB assembly will decline, increasing the risk of rework and repair.

2. Precise control of furnace temperature and welding parameters: The quality of wave soldering depends on the precise setting of various welding parameters, including PCB fixtures, welding temperature, wave peak height and feed speed, etc. Deviation of any parameter may lead to poor welding.

3. PCB first piece debugging: Due to the diversity of PCB materials and components, some components may have some unexpected problems during the furnace process. We usually do first piece debugging first and constantly adjust the PCB fixture and wave soldering parameters. process to ensure welding performance.

In short, quality is the core of our work. Xiechengchaung continuously improves welding quality through reasonable management, rich processing experience and technical means to ensure that we can better serve customers
